Chocolate Brownie Cake

Monday, 10 November 2008 02:12 by skhan

Finally nayab & I had a chance to bake together after a long long time... Surprisingly she landed to my place on her lazy sunday with most awaited baking supplies she bought for me last saturday.  Although she spent more than I asked her to (:p) but that didn't hurt me much when I holded my chocolate chips  (white & brown), nice vanilla & golden syrup (which we were going to use in our brownie cake)

  The good recipe comes from BBC Good Food

Banana Yogurt Cake // finally back to baking

Wednesday, 29 October 2008 01:38 by skhan

This was the first time I had a chance to bake with yogurt and without butter.  The result was quite good if not perfect

I believe the flour content should be a bit less.

But never mind it wasn't that bad !

If you are tempted to make your own, see the recipe here @Bakingdelight

Finding a Nested Data Control

Tuesday, 21 October 2008 09:10 by skhan

FindControl method doesn't work in some cases. For instance you won't be able to get to a DataList which is nested in another DataList. This "reality" came to my realization when I was trying to do the same today morning. I googled "Finding a datacontrol within a datacontrol"*  and I landed at Coding Horror. The solution lies in using a recursive find control method. Here's  the code:

        // recursive control finder ! Blisssss!

        private Control FindControlRecursive(Control root, string id)
        {
            if (root.ID == id)
            {
                return root;
            }

            foreach (Control c in root.Controls)
            {
                Control t = FindControlRecursive(c, id);
                if (t != null)
                {
                    return t;
                }
            }

            return null;
        }

Example:

DataList nestedDataList = this.FindControlRecursive(rootDataList, "nestedDataList") as DataList;

*at times bad search strings work!

What is Twitter ?

Wednesday, 15 October 2008 03:52 by skhan

None of my contacts are on twitter! Its so disppointing since none of my friends (nzahra you are an exception! :p) are aware of the sweetness of making tweets. I don't remember a single gethering where I didn't try to convince my friends to be on twitter. Yesterday I sent invitations to all of them but ironically even after so many convincing efforts no one even bothored to reply to my invitation, joining twitter after the invitation is so out of question!

I don't know why twitter doesn't appeal to some folks. Its such a lovely & interesting app that its so difficult to not to fall in love with it. Below is the Common Craft video explaining Twitter Magic and I beleive if anyone of my contacts were still thinking what is twitter should get the answer.

Unintensional Hiatus...

Sunday, 12 October 2008 21:52 by skhan

Its better late than never ! This blogging thing really facinates me and the whole idea of blogging is so exiciting for me. But even then over the months I'm unable to blog regularly. Well, I guess its my laziness which keeps me away. I've noticed no matter how much I'm busy I find time to read my favorite blogs but when it comes to my own blog I feel myself so lethargic to write up long posts. I keep on noting my post ideas on my desktop stickies and my cell phone's notes.  Two days back when I thought of my sweet blog waiting for me to atleast visit it, I couldn't believe its been 2 months since I last posted! So, today I contemplated all the idea posts being stored in different places (computer & cell phone) to finally take my blog seriously.

.........................

...............................

uffff can't think of anything else to write in this post, just when I put the period after the word "seriosuly" my stupid younger brother came in and started mumming right over my head, after popping him off when I tried to focus again, my cell phone's beep alerts me about low battery !

I guess I should better end this post here and plan to get back to write up some post from my posts ideas hut............ oh I just remmbered a very nice site I stumbled upon yesterday called Ideas Hut. The whole idea behind the Idea Hut is very interesting. Do visit it and post in your ideas if you have any!

See you all later!

Relax girls, I'm just taking a snap!

"Color of Choice" Overlay Trick

Monday, 11 August 2008 04:41 by skhan

Have you ever wanted to change the color of an image to some color of your choice ? if yes, sit back and read on as I'm going to share one cool & easy way to do that. So, lets get started and fire up your photoshop.

I'm going to convert the orange color of RSS feed icon into butter yellow.

  • Load the image you want to change the color of.

  • Duplicate the original color layer and rename it to the color you are changing to.

  • Select the new layer (mine is RSS-Yellow) and click on the "layer style" icon and select the "Color Overlay".

  • Select the desired color.

  • You'll see your image is "overlayed" with the chosen color.

  • Now we have to change the way this new color gets spreaded, for that we'll create a new layer in between the previous layers.

  • Now select the layer called "Rss-Yellow" and merge it down by using a hot key Ctrl + E or by using a menu option: Layer-> Merge Down.  Change the name of the new layer back to "Rss-Yellow" as after merging the layers down, normally it takes up the name of the bottom layer

  • Now select the "Rss-Yellow" layer and click the "layer style" icon and select the Blending Options

  • Select the Blend Mode to "Color". It will automatically select the foreground color you've already selected so set the foreground color to the desired one before selecting the blending mode.

  • Voila! we have the Yellow RSS icon !

All the pink feed icons you see on my blog are converted to the "Color of Choice" by using this trick. You can use this trick for any other image you like.

Let me know if this helped you and I see you in the next post with some cool tools which I'm dying to share with you all !
